Soul Journaling Advanced Techniques

I took an art class with Sarah Whitmire called Soul Journaling Advanced Techniques. Unfortunately, I was so busy with work during the time when the class was held that I wasn't able to do the activities during the time when the others in the class were during them. Still, I wanted to take part, and Sarah said she'd help me along whenever I got to it, so a few weeks after everyone else, I did mine. Here are the pictures of my art journal pictures -- I love the way it turned out. Over the next week or two I would like to add the tags that finish up the project, but for now I'm just very, very happy to have gotten this much done!

Chapter 3 in Taking Flight - Hope

This piece was inspired by some postcards I found online that were from a family's website and originated in Italy (used with the family's permission).  Inspired by the Italian heritage, I decided to make a stylized version of my grandmother Flora Mezzo on her wedding day.  The butterfly with the word "hope" represents the feelings all brides have on their wedding day, and especially for a young immigrant woman.

My First Mandala

This is my first mandala.  I started with an ad in a magazine - a picture of fruit - for an inspiration, used pens first, then scanned and then used Photoshop to brush in details and add words and background swirls. I made 2.5x3.5 sized ATCs of these to send in to a swap hosted by Megan Warren in Australia, one of my soul sisters on my Soul Journaling  group.    I love to look at the mandalas of Patricia Mosca at From the Inside Out, whose work inspires me in this area.  It took me a while to get the hang of mandalas because they are so different from what I'm used to doing, so I'm extra proud of this.
