Chapter 3 in Taking Flight - Hope

This piece was inspired by some postcards I found online that were from a family's website and originated in Italy (used with the family's permission).  Inspired by the Italian heritage, I decided to make a stylized version of my grandmother Flora Mezzo on her wedding day.  The butterfly with the word "hope" represents the feelings all brides have on their wedding day, and especially for a young immigrant woman.

Art Journal

This is the first project I did from Kelly Rae Robert's book "Taking Flight." It's a Journal Book made from four old book covers, with the letters A-R-T made from fabric and acrylic paints. The journal pages are filled with inspiration sayings, some taken from "Taking Flight" and some from my file of favorite sayings. Since Roan is always with me when I'm painting, he had to get into the picture of the book, too.
